Mission: Impossible (1996)

Inspired by the 1964 film Topkaki, it all started in 1966 with the Mission Impossible TV series. With a team of cool secret agents called the Impossible Mission Force (IMF for short) accepting a new mission every week, and one of the catchiest theme tunes in television history; it's not hard to understand why the show won over audiences and awards over its 7 season run.

The Soundtrack did well too. The theme song went Gold in the states and a movie went into production after the success of the first season; finally being released around Season three in Australia. A range of comics and books were also produced during this period and in 1988 the show was briefly revived - but not as well received. During the 90s and 00s, about half a dozen video games based on the property were produced; with my personal favourite being the coveted N64 release.

And so now we fast forward to 1996. The license was being shopped around and Brian De Palma got attached to the project. Tom Cruise was cast as the main protagonist and the film did exactly as you'd expect. A box office success, it made $450M from an $80M budget; and the Limp Bizkit remake of the theme, for the sequel, did amazing numbers.

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it, is to watch the Mission Impossible films this weekend (or at least the ones you haven't seen). If you can only see one, make it the first in the series.
